Oils for Love Part 1

Love cannot endure indifference. It needs to be wanted. Like a lamp, it needs to be fed out of the oil of another's heart, or its flame burns low. Henry Beecher Ward

In honor of the month of Love, I thought I would do a series on oils that will help you in the areas of love and marriage. So to start off the month we will look at Ylang Ylang.

Ylang Ylang (from hear on out referred to as Y to save me some keystrokes) is from the Anonaceae family and the scientific name is Cananga odorata. It is a tropical tree grown mostly in Asia. The essential oil is extracted from the flowers of the tree first thing in the morning. Y actually means flower of flowers. As with most essential oils that come from the flower of a plant you can expect to pay more for Y due to the less abundant yield.

Most Y essential oils are labeled as Ylang Ylang Complete. When the Y is distilled the first distillation called the extra is extremely potent and overly sweet, so the extra is combined with oils from the first and second distillation to form the Y Complete. When you are purchasing Ylang Ylang you will want to make sure you buy the complete as it is the most potent form available to aromatherapists.

Historically Y has been used in the flower form to cover a newlyweds bed. It has been used as a perfume for women and a tribe in Tahiti used to wear the flowers in their hair and to perfume their bodies. They also used the Y oil to condition their hair giving them lush, shining locks.

I hope that was a good teaser, because there are many wonderful ways you can use Y in your life. The first way is to promote marital relationships. Y helps to balance your hormones by stimulating your adrenals and thymus glands. This can help to bring desire, joy, harmony and passion to your relationship. Y is also a uterine tonic and rubbed on the abdomen can minister there. If you are struggling with desire for your spouse or just want to give your relationship a kick this is the oil to try. You can diffuse it in your room starting a half hour before bedtime or wear it as a perfume applying along your neck and behind your ears. If you don't have a diffuser then just place a few drops on your pillows.

Along with the physical, due to Y's many nervine (nerve related) properties, you can use it in battling depression, irritability, anxiety and insomnia. Other physical uses include skin care, hair conditioner addition, constipation, regulate circulation, and heart issues.

It is an amazing side note that an oil known so well for ministering to your physical heart and blood circulation also strongly effects the emotions said to originate in the heart.

So in honor of the month of love, add Ylang Ylang to your oil supply and see what it can do for you!!

Rosemary

As my favorite writer says in my favorite play:

"There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love, remember!"
Hamlet
William Shakespeare

Rosemary has a long rich history of folklore and medical use. It is always amazing to my how we as a people think that we are so much smarter than people in history because we have computers and cell phones that give us cancer and suck away time from our family life. Yet we have neglected and lost so much of the knowledge of herbs and healing which are essentials for life and health. Rosemary is no exception.
Rosemary is an amazingly versatile oil that can minister to a variety of your body systems. As Shakespeare said rosemary is effective in the brain and nervous system making it useful for memory loss, learning difficulties and indecisiveness. Rosemary is also antiseptic and anti-bacterial which is why you will often see it in hand soaps. It also makes useful for intestine and respiratory complaints. Rosemary is also analgesic so you can use it for arthritis and muscle pains.
My favorite use of rosemary is for my hair. It will smooth and shine your hair. It is also said it can cover up grey in brunettes with consistent use. So as you are experimenting with make at home hair care products and soap don't forget your Rosemary!!

Blue Yarrow the Essential Oil You Must Have

If there is one oil I could force everyone to have in their home it would definitely be Blue Yarrow!! A few weeks ago my son hit his chin and bit his tongue and came running into me screaming with blood pouring from his mouth. After I gave him a sniff of Tranquility to calm him I took a napkin and started trying to soak up the blood so I could identify the wound. However it was bleeding so fast I couldn't find the wound. So I took the blue yarrow and put two drops straight on my finger and started gently rubbing it around in the middle of the blood. At this point there was so much blood I couldn't really even identify the source or the wound. I waited about 30 seconds then started to mop up the blood from his mouth again and this time I was able to get it all out of his mouth and the wound wasn't bleeding anymore. He had a hole in his tongue with tissue hanging, however he said he was fine and hungry so means the bleeding was stopped I let him eat. He didn't experience any pain and a few hours later when i checked the wound it was sealed and even the flap of skin had fused back together.
Many people hold off on getting the Blue Yarrow because it is expensive, however you need to have some in your household. You will be so thankful you do when a wound happens and it just may save you a trip to the emergency room. Blue Yarrow will stop bleeding and seal up a wound as you watch.
So please as soon as you can make sure to add Blue Yarrow to your home oil supply, you wont regret it if you do.

A New Oil for Babies!!

Butterfly Express just released a new oil blend I am really excited about and wanted to share with all of you. This oil is called Julia and it is for our sweet babies. It contains anethi, caraway, chamomile Roman, lavender, and peppermint. This oil will be perfect to treat all those digestive problems our little ones tend to have in the first months. Julia is for the release of flatulence (gas), consitpation, and other intestinal distress in infants and small children. This blend is also useful for colic, upset tummy, and nausea caused by fear or over-excitement.

Take your little one and lay them on their back. Mix an equal amount of carrier oil (almond, grapeseed or coconut oil) and Julia into the palm of your hand. Then apply the oil to the abdomen and feet of the baby. I suggest you then bundle them up so the oil wont get rubbed off. This can be done often as long as the oil is well diluted.

I hope this will help smooth over some of the digestive problems your little ones are having.

Millenia Essential Oil

The Millenia blend of oil is often called the chiropractor in a bottle, but I personally call it Miracle in a bottle. Millenia is a Butterfly Express oil blend that has benefited my family and countless others around us in a profound way. Millenia contains the oils blue tansy, elemi, fir, frankincense, geranium, chamomile German, lavender, rosewood, and spruce. I have used millenia over and over again to help with the chiropractic problems I have with my neck and if I can get the muscles surrounding the neck to relax Millenia will realign my spine. I have had a friend use Millenia to help with a pinched nerve a the base of her skull which was causing her headaches. I have had a testimony that millenia on the back of the neck helped a woman keep from miscarrying. The list could go on and on. Here is some information about what Millenia can be used for. The below is an excerpt from the Butterfly Miracles Book, you will see under resources, by Laree Westover. Physical Aspects “Chiropractor in a bottle” is a good description of this blend except that Millenia aligns so much more than just physical structures. Millenia aligns the electrical energies of the body, balances every meridian, and energizes every chakra. In addition,Millenia maintains the integrity of the connective tissues that wrap, connect, and protect every organ and balances the emotions connected to each organ. Millenia balances the moisture and fluid levels in the body. One of my favorite uses for Millenia is in working with ADHD and hyperactivity. Applying LeMillenia to the feet at least once a day can make a profound difference in a child’s ability to sit still and concentrate. I use the feet because it is an excellent place to draw essential oils into the body. I also like the feet because the person (it is often a little boy) can put his shoes back on, go to school, and no one teases him because he ‘smells like flowers.’ Also consider using Tranquility along with the Millenia. As an agent of structural alignment, Millenia can be used as a diuretic, an antispasmodic, an expectorant, and a nervine, Millenia is helpful for some types of arthritis, for sciatica, and to improve capillary circulation. Millenia should be tried at the very first moment a hernia is suspected. Using LeMillenia to brush your teeth may keep your teeth aligned and prevent cavities. A drop should be diluted in almond oil and put in the ear for earache. This will realign physical structures and take the pressure off of the ear canal or ear drum. Because Millenia realigns physical and electrical structures, it is beneficial for some types of headaches. It is antispasmodic, analgesic and excellent where bruising has occurred. Millenia is one of my top recommended oils for any one's oil supply. It has so many diverse uses and it today's world we could all use a little aligning :)

Peppermint: The Essential Oil No One Can Live Without

Peppermint is the building block of any essential oil kit. When you discover all of its uses you will find that not a day goes buy without you pulling it out for one reason or another.

There are several variations of the peppermint plant, but the most common goes by the scientific name of menthe piperita or peppermint piperita. The essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and stem of the peppermint plant.

Peppermint is antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial which makes it a wonderful cleansing oil for your body and a cleaning oil for your home. It is a natural pain reliever and it helps to reduce inflammation making it good for respiratory diseases.

The ways to use peppermint are so numerous I am sure that I will miss a few so I will just list those that I have personally tried and had success with. I have treated, cuts, scrapes, headaches, asthma, allergies, sinus pain, sinus headache, migraine headache, muscle aches, stomach aches, stomach virus, nausea, fever, back pain, neck pain, bad breathe, increase alertness, increase concentration, flavor ice cream, flavor tea, flavor cookies, in household cleaner, in soap and in room spray. This oil is so diverse you will find that you will need to order it in bulk just to keep your family from running out.

To apply the peppermint I always dilute it about 50:50 with a carrier oil, as it can be overwhelming when applied directly. Due to it being a very safe oil it is ok to use a drop or two on your tongue for nausea, bad breathe or to stay awake. You can diffuse this oil, apply it topically, in water or on a compress.

A few cautions. Wash your hands thoroughly after using until you do not smell the oil on your hands any more. If you don’t get it off and you touch your eyes, it will sting. If this happens to you get some olive oil and rub it around the edges of your eye and it will draw the peppermint oil out. Also don’t just put drops into your bathtub without mixing it with baking soda first. It will burn your sensitive areas if you don’t properly mix it. Also do not apply it to fresh wounds or burns, it will cause pain. It is also not recommended for infants.
