Finally Off My Thyroid Medication

A good friend of mine used essential oils and diet to come off the thyroid medication she has been taking.  I know that Thyroid is a common problem so I asked her to write up her testimony to share with all of you.

In 2008 I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism after a bout of rapid weight gain, multiple miscarriages, ice cold hands and feet.  Healthy thyroid levels are said to be between (depending on reports) 0.30-3.0 or 0.5-5.0.  My numbers came back at 47, which was obviously out of bounds.  I was put on medication, I fought for a non-synthetic thyroid replacement and was eventually given the prescription for it.  My mom gave me a book written by an endocrinologist that focused on types of thyroid problems and their natural solutions.  He pointed out that even the natural medication that I was taking would tell my thyroid to stop working since I was taking thyroid orally.  For my type of thyroid I needed to eliminate all gluten (which was biochemically similar to the T-4 thyroid production).  In addition to that I added the Endo-Relief essential oil to my gluten free diet to regulate my thyroid.  I use a drop of carrier and a drop of Endo-Relief and rub it unto the TOP big bone and knuckle of both my big toes.  My results?  Last thyroid count was at 0.83, my best numbers ever, and I was able to finally carry a baby full term.  I've now been using it daily since 2009.

  1. I would love to hear more about this. I have thryoid problem and would be interested in more info. I don't understand when you say you use a drop of carrier oil and the endo relief? Also confused about where you used it. I am trying to learn about the benefits of herbs and oils.

  2. When using an essential oil you typically use a carrier oil such as almond oil or coconut oil. The carrier oil dilutes the essential oil before placing on the skin. So she would place one drop of almond oil in her hand and then one drop of endo relief. Then using her finger she would take that oil and rub it on the the top of her big toe right in the middle along the knuckle. She does that on both feet. I hope that helps. If you have any specific questions I can ask my friend and post her answers.

  5. I do have a question, please. It could be that coming off thyroid medication is impacted by the amount of time someone has been taking it. I have to admit I am quite surprised she was able to come off it when her level was that high! Fabulous! I would like to know: 1.) How long she was taking the medication. 2.) I'm assuming it was bovine 3.) Is she completely off all forms of hormone supplementation, absolutely zero (really, wow)? 4.) Does she have any hypothyroid symptoms? Thank you so much. This blog is so wonderful.

  6. Here is her response to your question

The thyroid med. was Armour which is derived from pork. I weaned off of it over a period of 90 days. I started by skipping every third day, then every other day, then half dose every other day and finally 1/2 dose every third day. All the while I eliminated gluten from my diet and used the Endo-Relief on my big toes. I have no symptoms of thyroid for the last two years. However, I'm always on the look out for symptoms just in case. But thus far, nothing. I want to say I was taking the Armour medication for 2 to 3 years always needing the dosage to increase when symptoms would return.
According to the book I read on hypothyroidism, not all cases of thyroid are the same. Mine was the ice cold hands and feet, weight gain and heavy round face.

  7. I want to try the oils, have been on synthroid for over 7 years, have never lost the weight...
My question is, did you wean yourself off with your doctors blessing? or did you do it by yourself?
How do you know it is safe? or better yet, how do you convince your doctor to help you on this process?
I gained over 60lbs, is it possible to loose it?

  8. Just as a disclaimer...I, Cara as owner of this blog have never treated thyroid issues, only because no one in our family deals with them. I have however seen my good friend have amazing success. Any questions I am forwarding to her and then posting her answers. Here is her latest response to the comment by Loving Life

Did I have my doctors blessing...NO WAY. I had to fight in the first place to get a naturally derived thyroid medication so called, which worked at first but eventually the doses were ever increased to keep working. No, she was completely skeptical. In my awakening and experience going with natural methods doctors are dumbfounded that anything would work other than their big pharmaceutical brands. Its the way they are trained. My grandpa was the head urologist at a county hospital and in his later years he developed prostate cancer. He eventually turned to Chinese herbal medicines and said that it went against his education, but it was the best (bleep) thing that worked without surgery.
Anyway, I weaned myself without doctor permission. I knew it was working because my symptoms of hypothyroidism did not return. No cold hands and feet, no fluffy face, no weight gain until I had a successful pregnancy. After the baby was born I was able to loose 70 lbs over 1 year. During the pregnancy my thyroid was constantly monitored and was always in a good lower range of 1.0-3.0 ish. My postpartum number was .83.
I don't know that you can convince a doctor that is diehard trained in pharmaceuticals, that hears a symptom and is immediately writing a prescription for a drug thats side effects may not out way the risks of the relieving the symptom. When I knew it was successful, I stopped seeing that doctor and its not very likely I would return to her.
Another key point of my hypothyroidism healing was going gluten free and not looking back. I believe for me that that is a big part of the success.
I highly recommend you get the book :

This endocrinologist goes over the multiple types of hypothyroidism and how to heal them naturally. Although he does not talk about essential oils in healing I would not do without the Endo Relief oil. It has played a key roll in my healing and my thyroid numbers prove it.

  9. I have found a natural derived thyroid thats available OTC, from Nutri-meds. Not overly costly($35/mo) , with dosing guidlelines as well for intergrating with Synthroid. Hope this helps those who cannot get their doctor to even try Armour- mostly based on either financial reasons, or outdated information.

    3. There has been such an overwhelming response to this posting. It seems like there are so many who want to not be strapped to their thyroid medications forever and are seeking some solutions. I am in the process of making a separate website that I am collaborating on with my friend who has healed her thyroid where we will have her full story, links, menus and other misc items.

  12. Hi, 2.5 years ago I was nearly dead from Hashimoto's Disease - an autoimmune disease of the thyroid. All my organs were shutting down. Fast forward till now and I no longer have Hashimoto's Disease. This healing has been managed through a Paleo/GAPS diet and natural medicine. I am under the supervision of a medical Dr who supports natural medicine for healing. For more information on my healing journey and what I have learned, check out my blog. http://heleadsmesharon.blogspot.com.au To God be the glory. Sharon

  13. Hi, did you take Endo-relief pregnant and nursing? My T4 came back low and I am 30wks. Already off the gluten, as I am Celiac. Also, did the sage in the oil affect your milk supply? I have struggled with low milk for 12 years with my 4 kids. Thank you so much!
